The 11th International Scientific and Technical Conference “From Imagery to Map: Digital Photogrammetric Technologies” is successfully completed. This year the Conference was held in Spain at Costa Brava shore in small nice town Tossa de Mar which is situated 90 km away from Barcelona and 40 km from Gerona. Impressing scenery and fresh sea breeze have created homely atmosphere and excellent conditions for the productive work.
The Conference organizer was Racurs Co. (Moscow, Russia) supported by:
This year NP AGP “Meridian+” (Russia) came out as the Platinum sponsor to the Conference.
Gold sponsors to support the Conference were:
Video Broadcast Sponsor — RDC SCANEX (Russia).
Information support was provided by the leading commercial media in Russia and other countries:
The conference provided ample opportunities for discussion, learning and sharing experience in the field of digital photogrammetric technology and remote sensing. The conference was attended by 120 managers and specialists from industrial enterprises and academic institutions from 21 countries who are using the RS data and photogrammetric processing in their daily practice.
Representatives from 8 countries delivered their reports at the Conference, while total number of reports amounted to 40. Conference was opened by Victor N. Adrov, Managing Director of the Racurs Company, who welcomed the participants in Russian, English and Spanish.
The mayor of Tossa de Mar — Mrs. Gisela Saladich, president of MIIGAiK and Society of Friendship, Cultural and Scientific Relations with Spain, doctor of technical sciences Victor P. Savinykh and chairman of the Board of “Earth from space” Association Victor V. Lavrov also gave speech of welcome that continued the opening of the Conference.
The first report at the Conference was delivered by International Sales Manager from Institut Cartogràfic de Catalunya (ICC) David Sanchez i Carbonell. He spoke about the works being done by ICC in Spain and abroad. Interestingly enough, processing results of periodically aerial space surveying of Spain (orthophoto, DTM, maps) are available on ICC site for free access. Professor Gottfried Konecny (Leibniz University Hannover, Germany) continued the Conference with report about the original issues for Remote Sensing.
The second set of reports was devoted to digital cameras and aerial equipment. Delegates from Russia and Israel presented their reports. Report about Digital Oblique Images and Their Application presented by Chief Technologist of «Meridian+» Company Sergey A. Kadnichanskiy was the most interesting one.
Representatives of Racurs Company — Alexandra S. Kiseleva and Dmitry V. Kochergin presented their reports in the next set devoted to Photogrammetric processing of digital aerial imagery. They told about new possibilities of PHOTOMOD 5.2 and PHOTOMOD GeoMosaic 5.2. Victor P. Savinykh delivered the report about Space Perspectives of PHOTOMOD System (in terms of Io (Jupiter’s satellite).
At first day of the Conference last set of reports was devoted to the UAV aerial photography and processing. Sergey I. Skubiev (Pro-rector, State University of Land Use Planning) began this set presenting the review of various UAV, applying for mapping.
The review report delivered by Armin Gruen (Prof. Institute of Conservation and Building Research, Switzerland) first of all was devoted to helicopter type of UAV. Andrey Yu. Sechin (Scientific Director, Racurs Co.) spoke about the UAV Images Processing Capabilities and new algorithms applying for survey processing from UAV in PHOTOMOD. Users operating UAV presented their reports and told about the background of UAV utilization. Alexander P. Mikhaylov (Department Chairman, MIIGAIK) spoke about Test Site for Testing of UAV Imagery for Terrain Mapping and Monitoring. His report gave rise to a storm and interesting discussion.
The second day of the Conference was traditionally devoted to Earth from space survey. Let us note the reports presented by Andrey Shumakov (Senior Channel Manager Europe, GeoEye, USA) and Felix Puls (Manager, European Space Imaging, Germany). They informed about the services, presented by the companies, new space vehicles which are planned to be launched and about RSD satellites that are already being operated.
The second set of reports was devoted to Photogrammetric processing of space remote sensing data. Participants were presented review reports by Professor Gottfried Konecny (Germany) and Professor Armin Gruen (Switzerland). For the first time representative from Republic Korea participated in the Conference. Jihoon Kang, (Researcher, Korea Aerospace Research Institute, Korea) reported about the algorithms of Accelerating a Satellite Image Processing using GPU (CUDA). It is planned to use these algorithms for processing images taken from the future Korean satellites. Ekaterina V. Makusheva (Engineer, VNIIEM, Russia) and Elena V. Kravtsova (Engineer, GIA Innoter, Russia) delivered very interesting reports about Russian Kanopus-B satellite which are planned to be launched. This satellite will be supplied not with light-sensitive line but with a set of light-sensitive matrix located chequerwise. Speakers told about the tools of modeling and processing data taken from Kanopus-B. Mikhail A. Drakin (Racurs Co.) informed about the new product line PHOTOMOD HPC Edition. This product line is intended to provide high-performance fully automatic photogrammetric processing of space survey on specific computer clusters.
Olga N. Gershenzon (Vice President, RDC SCANEX, Russia) and Sergey G. Kirichenko (Commercial Director, Panorama, Russia) spoke during the set of reports devoted to Geoportals. Speech of Victor N. Adrov (Racurs Co.) concerning corporate administrative geoportal, intended for companies processing aerial and space survey. Geoportal developed by Racurs Company is integrated with other databases of the company and first of all meant for projects data analyze and retention.
Evgeniy V. Ivaschenko (Chief Engineer-Constructor, TsSKB-Progress, Russia), Yuri B. Baranov (Head of Department, Gazprom VNIIGAZ, Russia) and Pavel I. Neiman (Head of Department, JSC RI PI, Russia) presented their reports within the last set of reports that were devoted to SAR survey.
The conference participants have paid a special attention to master-classes organized on the 3rd work day. Traditionally new PHOTOMOD capabilities have been demonstrated in real-time mode. Master class has been divided into several sections dedicated to UAV data processing, 3D-modelling module, new tools of satellite images block adjustment and new features of PHOTOMOD GeoMosaic software.
Along with the busy commercial program, the guests had an interesting cultural one. The conference participants could learn a lot about Catalan traditions and culture during tours to Gerona and Barcelona.
The open-collar part of the conference traditionally included some sport competitions. On the sport ground of Reymar hotel the street ball games of international teams were played. At the swimming pool, the teams demonstrated their accuracy in throwing balloons felled with water.
The third day of the conference ended with a gala dinner in medieval castle El Convent which captivated guests by fantastic sea views and very beautiful territory. Two versions of PHOTOMOD system were raffled in traditional lottery. This year the fortune favored the following companies: CIS Gmbh (Germany) and Gazprom VNIIGAZ (Russia). Sponsors of the conference, as well as honorary members of the conference were solemnly awarded with diplomas and gifts during the gala dinner.
We thank all our partners and colleagues for their participation in the 11th International Scientific Conference “From Imagery to Map: Digital Photogrammetric Technologies” and look forward to next time!
